멍청한 둘이 똑똑한 하나보다 낫다는 나의 믿음

Sir Francis Galton (1822~1911)

영국의 유명한 통계학자이며 유전학자이며, 인류학자이며...바이오메트릭이라는 학문을 개척한 사람이며...

그를 설명하는 수식어는 무척이나 많다.

사회과학이나 수학류를 공부하는 사람이면, 누구나고생했을 Regression의 창시자가 그라는 것을 한두번씩은 기억을 할 것이다.

대학원때 그의 논문 Regression towards mediocrity in hereditary stature 를 보면서 그리고 나의 은사님이 즐겨 예를 드시는 소도 아는 Regression 에 관한 내용때문에 이 분을지속 되뇌이곤 했었는데,

그의 이름을 다시 본것은 최근의 일이다.

under the right circumstances, groups are remarkably intelligent, and are often smarter than the smartest people in them. Groups do not need to be dominated by exceptionally intelligent people in order to be smart. Even if most of the people within a group are not especially well-informed or rational, it can still reach a collectively wise decision.

요며칠 계속 고민하는 것도 이 때문인데...

이문제도 "집단지성"으로 풀어야 할 지 모르겠다. ^^
